Valuation Methods - Selection of an appraisal method depends on the purpose of the appraisal. It does not, as so many of our texts contend, depend on the nature of the property or the nature of the market in which it will presumably be sold.

Value In The Abstract

When there is an absence of all or some of the following variables in an appraisal problem:
  • Quality

  • Quantity

  • Size

  • Condtion

  • Maker

  • Manufacturer

  • Period

  • Style


  • Because a reasonable estimate of worth can not be establish with some or all of these known variables missing from the valuation problem, it is stated to be "value in the abstract".
